Hewlett-Packard recalling around 679,000 digital cameras worldwide
Hewlett Packard is primarily known for their printer hardware but they also makes and sell digital camera. The latest news in is that the company is recalling as many as 679,000 Hewlett-Packard digital cameras. The problem is related to the battery packs which might overheat when the camera is connected to an AC adapter or docking station for a long period.
Hewlett Packard is recalling the HP Photosmart R707 digital camera models after they received reports of a camera catching fire. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission however confirmed that no injuries have been reported due to this overheating problem.
HP sold these cameras at electronics, computer, camera and online stores nationwide from August 2004 through April 2006 and all of these units might need inspection. As many as 224,000 units of these cameras were sold in the US market alone.
HP has advised the consumers to stop using the recalled cameras and contact the company for a firmware update. This update would stop the camera from applying a charge to a non-rechargeable battery.
They are also asking the owners of these cameras to not use single-use, non-rechargeable batteries until they have completed the update.
