EMI Music to offer music through Qtrax p2p service
EMI Music is one of the biggest music labels in the world and they have announced their plans to sell music through Qtrax service. This p2p service would feature a free advertising-supported level and a premium subscription level.
This technology has been developed by New York-based LTDnetwork and it would allow the web users to download copyrighted songs freely from other P2P networks. Users would be able to play these songs in full-fidelity for a limited number of times and would be given an opportunity to purchase that track or signup for a subscription service.
In the advertisement-supported module, users will be able to search through millions of songs and the titles registered with Qtrax would be made available using a proprietary format. Music companies would also get a share of the revenues when the user plays music from their network.
The paid subscription service would offer unlimited songs at a flat monthly fee. These songs would come with Microsoft’s Janus digital-rights management (DRM) technology.
