Aspire 9800: Acer to soon launch laptop with HD DVD drive
Acer has announced that they would be soon launching laptops with built in HD DVD drives. The company came out with this news at the ongoing Computex trade show at Taipei.
HD DVD is competing with Sony’s Blu-Ray format to become the standard for the next generation storage technologies. They are the same size as the regular DVDs but hold several times more data.
Acer is due to launch its Aspire 9800 notebook, which would feature an impressive 20.1-inch LCD screen. The company claims that this LCD Display is a monitor-class panel of a type not usually found on laptops and delivers an image equivalent to a desktop monitor.
However, it adds on to the size and the weight of the laptop making it unsuitable for portable functions. Perhaps, Acer is targeting this model as a PC replacement for people who do not require carrying around their notebooks.
