Micron showcases Managed NAND memory for mobile phones
Micron has showcased a new kind of flash-memory technology specifically developed for the mobile platform. This product is called Managed NAND and it combines flash memory with a high-speed multimedia card (MMC) controller.
Flash Memory is already quite popular in mobile phones for its compact size and quiet storage qualities. It also helps in conserving the battery life, as there are no mechanical parts moving around to access data.
Any Lynn, a spokesperson for Micron said on this new product development: “Our Managed NAND system has the memory density to support all the functions on smartphones, or digital music players, and uses a high-speed, technology-independent interface, which means manufacturers don’t need to worry about changing the software in their products.â€
Micron would have Samsung as a potential competitor for this new product as they develop a similar technology called OneNAND. Consumer would benefit as they get mobile phones, which consume less battery power and more functions.
