Intel Core 2 Duo launch to result in cheaper Pentium 4 Processors

Microprocessor giants Intel are due to launch their new processor range named Intel Core 2 Duo soon and this would result in cheaper Pentium 4 Processors for people looking to upgrade their computers in the near future.

The company is aiming to price this processor at a level to enable PC manufacturer to sell PCs based on Core 2 Duo at under $1,000 prices. However, consumers looking at extreme performance would like to go for the higher end models providing the best of performance from any PC processor today.

Intel would be launching Core 2 Extreme chips for this segment of the market. Intel CEO Paul Otellini has already clarified that they want to gain back the lost market share to AMD by pricing their processors competitively and these new processors would help them do that.

It would be interesting to see how AMD responds to this launch and the reduced prices of older Intel processors, which are still capable enough for a majority of the PC market.
