Google has no plans to leave China
Search engine giants Google have had a tough ride ever since they landed in the Chinese market. The government tried to block the company’s online services, which resulted in Google bowing to Chinese pressure to censor their results.
This cause a massive media outrage against the company which claims their business motto is ‘Don’t be evil’. Google Co-Founder Sergey Brin recently said that they were reviewing their policy of censoring their results in the Chinese market. This led to Chinese ministry clarifying that any company is welcome in their country as long as they abide by the Chinese laws.
Brin spoke about their plans for this market: “I think it’s perfectly reasonable to do something different. Say, OK, let’s stand by the principle against censorship and we won’t actually operate there. That’s an alternative path. It’s not the one we’ve chosen to take right now”.
He spoke about the Chinese government’s blockage of the Google.com uncensored service: “If you are a normal Chinese user and you want to use Google, just go to google.com and you actually won’t get good service. Eventually you will go to google.cn.â€
