Apple iPod has become an object of desire for the users and an object of envy for the competition. Apple sells iPod in tons and even better sells music from its online iTunes store in millions. So, how do you take the benefit of this closely bonded hardware-software combo if you don’t have anything like an iPod to bring users to your music store? Make your music playable on Apple’s iPod!

And this is what RealNetwork did with the launch of its Harmony software. It lets users upload and play music bought from the Real Stores on any iPod, something that was not possible before. Only songs bought from iTunes were allowed to play on iPod devices. And Apple is very mad. It is looking at both the possibilities. Block this loophole in the next upgrade in the Hardware component and legal course by looking into the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and other acts which might term the Real’s step as illegal.

Nasty, isn’t it! If Apple fails to get the Real off its ass, Microsoft just might become the next intruder! Their music store is not that hot too. If they have one coz I have not heard of any! :p
