Apple gets more time to fix iTunes in European countries
Consumer-rights protection agencies in Denmark, Norway and Sweden have extended the deadline given to iPod makers Apple Computers to respond to their demands related to the digital music store Apple iTunes.
The three countries are claiming that the company is breaching consumer laws by selling DRM protected music to the consumers in the region. Apple was informed about this issue last week and the company was told to reply by June 21.
The deadline has now been extended to August 1. Marlene Winter at Denmark’s National Consumer Agency spoke about their issues with Apple Computers: “We know our Norwegian colleagues are prepared to take the issue to court and of course if they get a ruling in Norway it will be very interesting for us because our consumer laws are so similar.â€
Apple might be forced to pay a fine and move out from these countries if they fail to satisfy the demands made by these consumer groups. It is very unlikely that the company would indeed stop following the practice of selling iPod compatible DRM music on the iTunes store.
