AOL trying to revive Netscape.com
Netscape name was once synonymous with the word internet. The company developed the browser, which was once the application of choice to surf on the internet. Microsoft came and changed it all.
AOL is now working hard to revive the brand. They have already launched a new version of the Netscape browser, which offers both the IE and Mozilla rendering engine to surf the web, and the company is now breathing new life into Netscape.com with a revamped design.
The revamped Netscape.com is still in beta and is based on a user driven model, which powers sites like Digg.com and Del.icio.us.
The website would enable users to submit stories, blogs, video clips, or other information. The content would be rated by the visitors, which would decide how prominently it is displayed on the portal. The company would have reviewers monitoring the activity on the website to prevent any disruptions or sabotage attempts.
Andrew Weinstein, a spokesperson for AOL said on the plans: “The anchors also can dive deeper into the pool of available stories and pull them to the top based on their expertise in a specific area or the timeliness of an item. They will provide context as well, providing insights that other people don’t have.”
