BD-P1000: Samsung launches Blu-Ray players in America
South Korean tech giants Samsung have finally launched what are the first Blu-Ray players in the US markets. With this, the company has begun the competition between the makers of Blu-Ray technology and HD DVD format for the next generation storage format.
The player launched in the US market is BD-P1000 and it comes at around USD 999. This price is pretty high considering HD DVD players are available in the market for around USD 500 price point.
The Blu-Ray format is supported by companies like Dell, Philips and Matsushita. Sony is the primary developer of this format and claims that it is much better than Toshiba’s HD DVD format.
The Samsung BD-P1000 player should be available in retail stores by June 25. Sony has already announced that content for Blu-Ray players would be made available in the US by June 20.
This Blu-Ray player also supports existing standards like DVDs and CDs. Interestingly; the player would actually play DVDs at a higher resolution than ordinary DVD players.
