MOG.com: A social networking site for music lovers
A former MTV marketing executive David Hyman has test launched a new social networking portal MOG.com with the aim of bringing together the music lovers on the internet.
This portal was launched earlier today and has been started with an investment of $1.4 million from private investors. It requires the interested users to download and install the application named MOG-O-MATIC.
MOG-O-MATIC when installed catalogs the music on users’ computer hard drives and also monitors what kinds of tracks are played most frequently by the user. It also keeps track of the new tunes, which are downloaded or purchased from the internet.
This data is then analyzed by the application and is uploaded on the user’s webpage on the social networking portal for viewing by friends and online contacts. The users of the service are also encouraged to blog about their likes and dislikes in the music world.
MOG.com spokeswoman Dana Smith spoke about this new service: “There are music lovers who want nothing more than to tell the world what they are listening to. This is really exciting to people who want to see what other people are listening to and to people who want to show off their stuff.”
It would be interesting to see if the web users are really open to the idea of letting other people know what kind of songs they download from the internet. It could possible result in privacy issues for the members of the service.
