Apple iTunes consumes Coke’s mycokemusic.com

Coca-Cola is the latest victim of the success of Apple and their iTunes digital content service. The soft drink maker has said that they would be closing their British online music service mycokemusic.com on July 31 after losing the market share to Apple iTunes.

MyCokeMusic.com was launched in the UK in January 2004 and was once the dominating player in digital music sales market. However, things changed a lot for them after Apple launched iTunes in Britain in June 2004.

The company has informed their registered members about this new development through email. A message has also been posted on the music service’s website informing the users about the closure of the service.

Coke said in a statement: “In 2004, the digital music scene was just developing and the only way for Coke to offer access to music downloads was to open our own store. That’s not true today and there is no need for Coke to continue to run a store.”
