Nokia ends venture with Sanyo for CDMA technology phones
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has said that they are breaking their talks with Sanyo on a possible joint venture to make CDMA technology based mobile phones.
The company added that they would also pull out of CDMA phone manufacturing which is not growing at a pace they had expected earlier.
However, Nokia plans to continue selling these phones in the US market where this format is one of the most popular for mobile phones.
India is another big potential market for the company when it comes to CDMA technology based mobile phones, but the telecom companies here are also considering moving to rival GSM standard.
The problem is mainly due to royalty fees required to be paid to Qualcomm for making these mobile phones.
Nokia added that they would be taking a 150 million euro hit in the third quarter from restructuring.
