Toshiba to come out with HD DVD recorder in July

Japanese tech company Toshiba has said that they would be launching the much-awaited next-generation, high-definition HD DVD format recorders sometime next month.

This would further expand the battle between the two formats fighting it out to become the standard for next generation storage media.

Toshiba’s HD DVD recorders are expected to be out in the retail market on July 14 in the Japanese market. This recorded would come equipped with hard disk drive and would cost a massive 398,000 yen ($3,466).

The company has already launched HD DVD media players and they have sold well in the market. Rivals Sony has just launched the media on the Blu-Ray format and Samsung have launched Blu-Ray players in the market.

Interestingly, Sony has been offering Blu-ray-based recorders since 2003. However, the high price and the lack of software kept them from becoming widely adopted.
