Panasonic to launch a Blu-Ray technology based media center

Panasonic has said that they plan to begin selling a Blu-Ray player along with an audio-video receiver and a set of speakers tuned to work with the player from September this year.

They would be promoting this package along with their 65-inch plasma TV to provide an entire home entertainment system solution to the end consumer.

The company has already launched recordable Blu-ray drives for PCs and also released tools to make video authoring easier. However, competing players supporting the Toshiba’s HD DVD format are cheaper and this makes it tough for them to lure in more customers.

Panasonic however believes that higher capacities on Blu-Ray drives would make it the standard for next generation data storage on disks. A multi-layer Blu-Ray disc can potentially have a storage capacity of 200GB on eight layers, which can make it a breathtaking storage media for the customers.
