For all the wrong reasons. Because securities regulations restrict what executives can say while preparing to sell stock for the first time. And the interview was taken just about the time when Google announced their IPO. The SEC sometimes imposes a “cooling off” period when a company involved in an IPO releases any information that deviates from its IPO registration statement. A similar situation developed recently before the IPO of Salesforce.com.

And Google did not got the interview to get delayed publishing as the interview is appearing in September issue with some subscribers already have received a copy. The issue will be available on the stands from Friday.

With the controversy surrounding the issue, it is certain to invite a record number of users because the curiosity about Google is on a sky high at the moment with the IPO round the corner. In the seven-page interview, Larry Page and Sergey Brin discuss the company’s rapid growth and even brag about how Google’s search engine has helped save people’s lives. The article is promoted on the Playboy Web site as “a candid conversation with America’s newest billionaires about their oddball company, how they tamed the Web and why their motto is ‘Don’t be evil.’” If people want to read it, they must buy the magazine, it says
