Nix and Hydra confirmed as names for new Pluto moons
Pluto now officially has two new moons and their names are Nix and Hydra. This was confirmed by the scientists who helped detect them.
The names were approved this week by the International Astronomical Union who officially designated these names for these two moons orbiting around the planet Pluto.
Nix and Hydra were discovered in May 2005 by a team of researchers using the Hubble Space Telescope. This research was part of the NASA mission called New Horizons.
New Horizons program also include a plan to fly to this distant planet within the next 10 years. The only other moon discovered orbiting the Pluto is Charon, which was discovered in 1978.
