DaimlerChrysler might bring Smart car in US in 2007
A market rumor says that DaimlerChrylser might launch its two-seater Smart car in the United States next year. Detroit News reported today that the company would make an announcement as early as this week.
DaimlerChrylser responded to this rumor by saying that an announcement on their plans with the Smart car is due and would be made in the near future. Nothing else was revealed by the company.
Han Tjan, a spokesman for DaimlerChrysler said in a statement: “We’ve always said that we would have an announcement in June, so it’s close. It’s imminent.â€
This would be their attempt to get an entry into the compact car segment in the United States where the consumers are starting to prefer cheaper and reliable cars instead of fuel guzzling SUVs.
Detroit News also said that the company would prefer to sell this car through a distributor in the United States than their own dealerships.
