Intel to launch new Xeon chips this week
World’s leading microprocessor market Intel Corp is due to start shipping new processors for servers this week. This would further strengthen their product range against smaller rivals AMD which has increased its share in the server market in the last couple of years.
Intel is due to launch its new Xeon dual-core server processor series. This product was codenamed Woodcrest during the development stages.
This would be the first chip range to use company’s new design technologies. Intel claims that these new chips would provide better performance and lower power consumption.
Kirk Skaugen, vice president of the digital enterprise group said in a statement on their plans for the near future: “High performance computing is absolutely a key focus area here. It’s an area we honestly lost share in (in) the United States over the last year, and we believe this is an exciting new product to help us win back share in high performance computing.”
