Netgear launches a 200-Mbits per second powerline router product
Netgear has announced the availability of a new powerline router capable of speeds of up to 200-Mbits per second over ordinary power lines.
This 200-Mbps Powerline HD Adapter (model HDX101) comes with an associated kit (the HDXB101) and they are based on Design of Systems on Silicon (DS2) chipset.
The adaptor has been priced at $129.99 while a complete kit comprising of two adapters would sell for $249.99.
Impressively, this product is compliant with the Universal Powerline Association specification and carries its label on the box. It would compete with both Ethernet and Wireless products in the market.
Chano Gomez, vice president of technology and strategic partnerships for DS2’s U.S. operations spoke about this new product: “It is true that when we provide samples to our customers we include an installation guide that advises users to use a dedicated outlet. Some power strips will work, however.”
