2 things that relates to GMail from the Playboy interview

So, Playboy lawyers were threatening to sue every site out there which tried to publish the much talked about interview on their site. I have no plans to do so. I just read it online here on SEC Info – Google Inc. The guys sounds exactly like I expected them to… :) No corporate jargon, just geekdom. The IPO craze must have been hard for these guys.
Now the good part. There were 2 parts of the interviews which clears some basic facts about GMail that people talked a lot about when it was first released. I always rubbished claims like they are reading your mails and they will keep my mails for ever and other crap. Nothing like that seems to be true plus more!
My favorite clips…
For example, we just released Gmail, a free e-mail service. We said, “We will not hold your e-mail hostage.†We will make it possible for you to get your e-mail out of Gmail if you ever want to.
The lawyers wrote something that was not very specific. It said something like, “If you request that we delete your e-mail, it may remain on a backup system for a while.†It led people to say, “Google wants to keep my deleted mail.†That’s not our intent at all. Since then we have added some language explaining it. We intend to try to delete it.
There you go. GMail will make it simple for us to leave it. Not that there is a better alternative out there yet. And well, they are not mad to keep every piece of junk that I ever get from the spammers around the world. Everyone keeps a backup… They just told us the true facts on our face. And people certainly does not like hearing the truth…
