July 4: Space Shuttle Discovery next scheduled launch date
NASA continued to face problems with bad weather today, as they had to postpone the launch of the Discovery Space Shuttle yet again. The launch was cancelled today due to concern about lightning and thunderstorms.
The mission control felt that the bad weather would make the launch risky and they would now wait for the next scheduled launch time on July 4.
John Shannon, deputy manager of the shuttle program spoke on the agency’s decision to delay the launch: “You don’t want to get into a rush and do something that’s not smart. If you go into a launch and get struck by lightning that will be very memorable.â€
NASA is avoiding today for a possible launch, as they want the mission engineers to get enough rest for tomorrow as they have been working very hard to get the Space Shuttle off its launch pad.
The space agency added that if the launch goes on as planned tomorrow, the mission would last for around 12 days. As per current weather calculations, the possibility of a launch tomorrow is 60%.
