Apple replaces eMac with a scaled down iMac
Apple Computers have finally replaced their aging lineup of eMac computers targeted at the educational market. The new updated version is a scaled down Apple iMac. This machine is going to cost USD 899 in the market.
It comes with a 17 inch screen and the same Core Duo processor clocked at the same speed — 1.83GHz. Impressively, Apple has kept the iSight video camera and it also comes preloaded with iLife ‘06 pre-installed.
Also available on this machine is 512MB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, expandable to 2GB, built-in 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet capabilities, built-in 802.11G Wi-Fi wireless networking, three USB 2.0 ports and two FireWire 400 ports.
However, this cheaper iMac does not come with Bluetooth connectivity, an optical SuperDrive and the ATI-based graphics. The system features a 24X CD-RW/DVD-ROM “Combo†drive and integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics. The hard disk size is 80GB, as opposed to 160GB in the regular iMac.
