Rumors: Microsoft might launch an iPod rival by this Christmas

Rumors in the market suggest that software giant Microsoft are indeed working on a potential iPod rival and they plan to launch it by this year’s Christmas holidays.

The timing would be perfect for the company as the last two months of the year are some of the best times to sell digital gadgets.

The rumors also claim that this player from the company would play both audio and video files and would be capable of downloading music and videos over the air. This one feature is totally missing from the iPod and could become a potential selling point for the company.

The reports also claim that Microsoft is also developing a software to rival Apple iTunes application to make it easier for the user to manage the integration between the player and the digital stores. This however goes totally against their current generation Windows Media Player application.

Other market analysts have been claiming that Apple is facing delays with the development of the next generation of Apple iPod players. This is the right time for Microsoft to strike back at the leaders in digital audio player market.
