Google might use courts if telecom companies misuse the latest Telecom Bill
Search engine giant Google has warned the telecom companies that if they end up misusing the powers given to them by a recently passed telecom bill, they would knock the doors of the courts in the country to protect the rights of the web users.
The company said that it would not hesitate to file anti-trust complaints in the United States if the telecom companies start charging customers to give them faster lines to access certain web services.
The recently approved law makes it easier for telephone companies like AT&T to offer subscription television to consumers. This might result in a situation where these companies start charging the web users or the service providers to give them full access to the internet lines.
Vint Cerf, Google’s representative said in a statement: “If the legislators … insist on neutrality, we will be happy. If they do not put it in, we will be less happy but then we will have to wait and see whether or not there actually is any abuse.â€
He further said: “If we are not successful in our arguments … then we will simply have to wait until something bad happens and then we will make known our case to the Department of Justice’s anti-trust division.â€
There are also rumors in the market that the search engine company might end up being a service provider itself. Google is rumored to be buying massive fiber optic lines spread throughout the country and has also registered millions of IPv6 addresses.
