Maruti Suzuki to launch revamped Wagon R in October
Maruti Suzuki is due to launch diesel versions of their cars including Esteem and Swift by the end of the year. However, the immediate term plan is to launch a more updated version of the Wagon R model to fill the gap created by the discontinuation of the Maruti Zen model.
The company is setting up a plant about 20 kilometers from its existing facility in Gurgaon. This plant would have a capacity of manufacturing around a lakh cars per year and would help them address the additional demand in the market.
The new Wagon R model is however due to be manufactured at their existing facilities located in Gurgaon. This car could be priced slightly higher than the Zen. Zen was the first premium compact car to enter the Indian market and was very successful.
Market experts believe that the company did badly by redesigning the car in-house, which took out the sheen away from the car leading to falling sales.
