Honda’s first bike in India to be called Unicorn

Honda Unicorn was launched today and guess what MotoGP rider Alex Barros was here to launch it. Unfortunately, I guess no one would have heard about him here… The price is targeted to be around 50,000 INR which just fits it safe from Hero Honda bikes and directly in competition to Bajaj Pulsar. Hoping for a 175cc model now! :D
Industry observers confirm that Honda Motor Scooter is targeting the passenger carrier segment, which constitutes more than 60 per cent of the total three-wheeler sales in the country.

Honda already dominates the market in partnership with Hero to sell motorcycles under the brand name Hero Honda. Hero Honda holds the distinction of being the largest sellers of motor cycles and Splendor (I own it too!) is the world’s largest selling bike. Now, things get better… Honda as an independent company is coming out with their own bikes. Honda Motorcyles and Scooters India Private Ltd. would be releasing their first bike in India in September which would be called Unicorn.
It’s going to be powered with a four stroke 13.2 BHP engine with five gears and it will also come with mono suspension shock absorbers which is a first for an Indian bike. Honda is bringing in this bike with a constant vacuum (CV) carburetor to ensure mileage in excess of 60 kilometers to a liter of petrol. The 150cc bike is expected to land in Honda showrooms pretty soon and is aimed to compete heads on with Hero Honda CBZ and Pulsar.

“ALL THAT GLITTER IS NOT GOLD”. Yes HONDA does produce good products, but PULSUR from BAJAJ was much better machine as compared any other on the Indian Road. Hence one must not get biased with the name, which can at times rock your bottoms out. Hence investment in PULSUR can be by design and investment in Unicorn can be by mistake.

no one is saying that honda unicorn will be better than any other bike in the market. the point is that, since it is a honda, we can be pretty sure, it is going to be a very good product. and bajaj has more headaches for sure.

I reside in Tuticorin, Tamilnadu 628002 – Can anyone please tell me who is the nearest dealer for Honda Unicorn – what rate is it over here at Tuticorin – i want to purchase one immediately – i was waiting for Pulsar DTSI 150 cc ES for more than a month – transport strike blah, blah – no proper response at the local showroom but now the launch of Unicorn has come at the right time – i need a black colored, disc brake & electronic start (if available).
Anyone from the manufacturer or dealer side to get me one Unicorn pls.

i been waiting for the launch of the Unicorn for how much i dnt knw… i think may be 2 months as the ads were put here (cochin). but sadly even after the launch there isnt much information of the bike with the local dealers. i contacted Honda motors thru email but sad to say have never got any repy. in the site there is a mention about a Model A bike…there isnt much mention, if its a higher or lower version of Unicorn.
i would appreciate if honda in future atleast launch a bike in the entire country like what Yamaha did with there Fazer..
its really sad that even after launch the dealers havnt got a bike even for display..and they dont have an idea of the bike..
Never expected this from the worlds best two wheeler company.
Pls if nabody has anyidea about the other mdel of Uicorn pls let me knw

Hope will hit the market hot with all the new specifications and GUYZ fed up of other ones of the class would really try it out. but one small thing could be better with better view of the tail lamp. rest bike feels SPORTY—-BEST OF LUCK for the team behind it.

it has been more than a week since unicorn was launched,even now it is not available in market.But what strikes most about this bike is lack of electric start,which is expected of a 150cc and Rs50k plus bike.Rest bike is good with lots of bodywork like CBZ.performance might not be as spectacular as claimed though.Overall it would be hard to beat the complete package of pulsar dtsi(as bajaj is planning an improved version of pulsar dtsi,v might get some eautiful alloys)

When I purchased Activa in 2002, I came to know that Honda would be launching a bike in 2004. It was the time when I was planning to buy a bike. But the information that i got, kept me away from buying a bike for these 2 years. Just because ‘HONDA is HONDA.’

We cannot say much about unicorn because of the lack of information, but one thing is 4 sure that an average indian family would not take chances on a company that is going to put its FIRST BYKE ON INDIAN ROAD. honda unicorn is a perfect byke dreamed but any byke performance is not judged untill it runs on the road,more over unicorn is on the waiting list for 3 to 4 months and i dont think people like me will wait for so much of time.

I got my Red Honda Unicorn last week and you bet I never felt so good driving this dream bike. The design is perfect. When you sit in the driver’s positions all the controls are exactly where you want them to be. You don’t see the front wheel (unless you are too tall) you directly see the 3-combo dashboard. The firing is silent and the monster engine is revving up 13.3 horses! YES! This is what I wanted.
I bet there will be thousands saying the same in the months to come.

Bajaj Discover DTSi has great looks and for sure u get alloy wheels and disc brakes and electric starter for just 50k.
U r getting a bike for 100cc price for its 125cc.

Well, I was planning to buy pulsar dtsi, when i went on a test ride for UNICORN, i felt this is the bike i needed, its amazing, now its givng 75-80 mileage, definetly male(UNICORN). But one thing i didnt like is the horn sound, its sounds like scooty. Pls i request the HONDA ppl to change the horn sound. One more thing Pls release ur bikes with selfstart also. Finally its a perfect bike for definitely male. hahahhahah Pulsar will go down now.

Good things doesn’t come cheap. Bajaj could have been trusted till it was with kawasaki, TVS could have been trusted if it would have been with Suzuki. You shud have the technology to change and create rather than copying. Honda Unicorn will give hard time to not only bajaj pulsar but better bikes like CBZ or Fierro. Also dont forget pulsar was the one and only successful model model that people has liked completely. Karizma is good but its fixed head light and all covered fibre body in busy indian street is a disadvantage but good for highway cities and not so for metropolies. Unicorn is giving a milleage of 50 to 55 in city and top speed of slightly above 120 which is very good in india. It shud suit all biker’s class.

I checked out both Pulsar DTSI and Honda Unicorn. Unicorn is a class apart. It is silent, has a great look and Xcellent pick-up. What more can one ask for? I bought the new self start Unicorn!

First thing first…. there is no point of comparising b’tween discover , passion, freedom, calibre etc… with UNICORN, cause “MUKABLA BARABAR WALON MAIN HOTA HAI..”. I brought my new honda and i m very happy with its performance.. its seriously a silent killer… or u can say the beauty is it did’nt make (only) the noise… Action is always better than words. and it shows the depth….. stay away u cheaps..! the gient is coming with its own pace. (Although I m a hardcore fan of bullet but the test ride of new bullet did’nt inspired me a li’l, my last model (of 1980) is still much much better than the new thunderbird. so i drop the idea) What I dislike about this bike is, when u look at the bike from behind it looks a li’l small… compare the back view of Karizma and Honda and u’ll got my point. It should be more uplifted as Karizma. Well any way this bike shows that technology is much more important than only looks, or those jerky starters, and here u can own the both (looks as well as performance).
Fly at ur own wings…… its a HONDA.

hey dudes u guys have compared about all most evrey thing but the handling of unicorn and pulsar. pulsar is to crud in handling in our indian road conditions. it is just not only muscular looks should matter but also handling because u r not going to just park your bike on the road for people to see it but u need to ride it. the unicorn handling is great, perfect balance and the looks r ” dont messs with me” looks. the pick up is good i saw two guys onthe road in a signal one with a pulsar and the other with a unicorn. the green ligth was on and the unicorn was gone but the pulsar was just making noise.

No doubt Honda is quite similar like pulsar. But pulsar is more reliable and it is very well tested in Indian condition and it has admitted great Success. The need of the time is not only power and style but it should be more economical and more fule efficient.

YAMAHA RULES………….hi friends, am ramesh from bangalore…. i own a yamaha rxz, its really a very powerfull bike, riding 2stroke bikes are very difficult. a well maintained stock rxz does between 115 to 120, but when u port the bike i think no indian 4stroke bikes can catch this bike cos it does a top speed about 160 as per the experts from yamaha dealers…………..initial in yamaha bikes are uncomparable with any 4 stroke bikes. its obvious to say that at present yamaha rxz is the fastest bike of india. cos many think karizma is a faster bike which is among the 4 stroke category with just a top speed of 125……..

I am using Hero Honda bike since last 12 years & trust on the reliability, milage & parts. I Nepal new product lunches very late. I am quite interested in Unicorn bike.. hello my name is shobhit , i want to give personal views on pulsur,karizma,cbz,unicorn. u know that pulsur reaches 0-60 in 5.2 seconds where as unicorn reaches 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and cbz reaches 0-60in 5.3 seconds but u know as compared to karizma they all are behind then karizma because it reaches 0-60 in 3.6 seconds

SHAME ON HONDA COMPANY
Monday’s violent clashes witnessed in Gurgaon can be traced to an incident that occurred on December 17 last year.
A factory operator was apparently physically abused by a foreign official visiting the company leading to a furore among the workers.
The official had to later tender an apology.
Meanwhile, the workers began raising various demands including a salary hike. To press harder for their demands, they even formed a Honda Motors and Scooters Employees Union.

Despite talks with the management and even the Gurgaon administration, the deadlock continued.

Fresh clashes were reported today at a civil hospital in Gurgaon between the relatives of workers of a Honda subsidiary and the city administration.
Angry family members of Honda employees attacked Deputy District Commissioner Sudhir Rajpal inside the civil hospital when he was trying to speak to the press. The crowd refused to let him speak and manhandled him.
Police reinforcements had to be called in to control the crowd that was also damaging furniture inside the hospital.
Earlier, responding to reports that some workers were still missing, Sudhir Rajpal said 61 people have been arrested under the two FIRs filed in the case.
Rajpal said 320 people, who were taken into preventive custody yesterday, were released late last night.
The Gurgaon administration has also released a fresh list of the injured and those who have been discharged from hospital.

Judicial probe demanded
The Left has demanded a judicial probe into the incident by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta today announced a series of protests which are being planned, starting with a Haryana bandh on July 28.
“The Hooda government is the agent of the Japanese company. We are going to fight this. There will be a Haryana bandh on July 28, a nationwide Protest Day on August 1 and a nationwide strike on September 29. We will do whatever we can, this will be a very long fight,” said Dasgupta.
The opposition BJP has demanded the dismissal of the Congress government in Haryana. Leader of the Opposition and BJP president L K Advani said a magisterial inquiry is not enough.
“The Haryana government along with the police is torturing the people. If Shivraj Patil does not take action, then the PM will be held responsible,” said BJP leader V K Malhotra.

I want to know the actual mileage of Royal Enfield different model’s mileages which what the company says. I have searched a lot in net for this information but no use. I bought Honda Unicorn on 13/3/05 from dealer “BHASIN HONDAâ??, not satisfied with its performance as there are no proper services being deliver. After every service from Bhasin service station, whether its (1,2,3 service) the common problems like mileage, pickup, smooth gear shifting they are not able to get it rectify. For service we have to line up our vehicles, whereas job card are prepared after 2hours, after this mechanic visit within 2-3 hours time limit and repairing take its own lots of time. Itâ??s ok with me to spent more than 6 hours to get it rectify as there lots of work load, but after spending this much time the bike problem doesnâ??t get rectified. On complaining this to Manger (Mr. Nagpal) he try to ignore that problem, for the same problem I visited service station but they are not able to rectify small problems.
Kindly look into this matter, company with name of HONDA, meant for good products and services. Which is not able to prove themselves in eye of costumers, personally my thinking is by buying such costly bike is like Throwing money into Thrash Bin.
I will be oblige if the concern person look into this matter

The following things have not been kept in mind by Honda Unicorn manufacturers :
1) Fuel tank lock – petrol filling as well as petrol locking. At least they should have thought of a novel method to provide tamper-proof Company-built petrol lock (this is in view of the current trend of the petrol cost where petrol pilfering is taking place) identical to the ignition key. The petrol filling cap & lock are identical to those provided by Hero Honda Passion. My experience has been that from these locks, water, particularly in the rainy season, finds its way into the fuel tank. I have had to replace the entire fuel due to this problem twice. I have been told by my friends who own Pulsar that they too have faced similar problems.

I bought Unicorn 6 months back i has the following problem in my bike which is not attended my dealer properly KUN Honda – Adayar Chennai.
1. Headlight and doom is vibrating and making sound.
2. Ignition Key Lock is not smooth very hard. each time i am finding it difficult to ON.
3. The Side and Back Parts are vibrating and making nasty sounds which even TVS 50 wont do.
4. Front Brake is producing some nasty sounds during rainy season.
5. water in to petrol tank.
6. battery replaced because of some problem.

I own karizma bike and so many people say n numbers of comments about karizma is like this or like that….. But what i say for everyone is if u look for style, speed and comfort. Then its one and only karizma for indian roads. Its not that i own karizma, own it or drive it then you will understand what i feel….. One who says bad about karizma ask the same person to drive it or race with any other bike. Then he will know about it… Any one who gives bad impression about karizma may say some crap because they are not able to own it or drive it, but on the otherside of their mind will know what the bike is……Anyone for sure will dream or think about karizma to own it or drive it. All i want to say is dont ever compare karizma with other bikes unless and untill any bike is equal to its standard level. Karizma will steal anyones eyes to have a look on it when u drive on road……..Karizma stands for its name and looks….of course its speed. When u look for speed and performance dont think about mileage. For sure karizma will give mileage between 30 – 35. Finally i want to say just own it and feel the experience.

Guys, i got my Unicorn in April 2004.I ahve been riding the bike for quite a long time and believe me ,there is not a single prob that i have come across with this bike.the max speed i touched is 115 kms/hr. mileage is between 45-55 depending on riding habits.IT ROCKS.Pulsar is good too but it might take a back seat when it comes to technology with Unicorn in mind. Bike lovers, beware the silent monster is lurking in the woods and u would not even know when the silent monster will spray dust in ur eyes and vaniskh in the horizon.

I bought red unicorn on 31st september 2005. 3 months have passed and this bike is rocking the road . but the main problem m suffering is unstable viser which creates a lot of noise. If it could have alloy wheels and wider tyre then it would be much better.

Hi,there.the all new honda UNICORN is good bike for ride in overall performance.but like PULSOR,KARIZMA,CB-Z it is also pretty similer type of bike.Better not to compere it with “YAMAHA RX-Z” because it is the king since it was launched.No one near of it for compere.It can reach 0-60 at three second and continue picup boosting TO 130KMPH.Adjustment of engine will make the top speed to 160KMPH and above.

I have bought UNICORN 12 months befor i am facing lots of problem. In rainy season i have to replace its cluch plate twice as the dealers in VADODARA (Gujarat) told that there is no Warrenty for Cluch Plate. Three times front plart of Fiber has been replaced and back part is been replace once. Now the other problem that i am facing is the joint welding has been broken and the dealer C.R.SONS of Vadodara has asked me for the charges i am ready to pay the charges it is not important for me but the quality of material that you are making is lowest and it is manufacturing defect it should be replace why has dealer asked for the payment. I have paid for cluch plate twice have have not asked for free replacement even though of the worst quality of your company.In Gujarat the lowest quality of thing we call as made in CHINE and you are going below of it. You should close your manufacturing unit in INDIA and just import the bike and do reselling u are not having any capacity to manufacture in india just worst thing u are making HONDA Bike in name of UNICORN Manufacture in India.
I am having Hero Honda Passion since last 4 years the quality of the bike is best even after 4 years i have not face any technical proble even its fiber has not been broken.
You Honda people in INDIA are spoiling the name and quality. It would be better that bike shell be manufactured by HERO HONDA.

well i have owned the honda unicorn for 1 year and three monts, i am from south india, kerala,
well my bike have no big problems, its going well, but niraj says about his bike?? and about my bike, its really doing good, i think diffrent people have different bike compliants relative to their riding conditions, well one i had was that part which covered the taillamp side had loads of vibrations and i went to the dealer, they told that it was the fibre which had a manufacturing defect and they replaced it with new ones, its now no problem, then other problem is that the material with which the side indicators is made is very fragile, it breaks in the side where we tighten it, other
one big problem for my bike is that the disk brake. well the disk brake isnt having the same response time as it had at the first time, they changed the disk brake pads 2 times,……. still no difference, i am not getting the same stopping speed as that of first time,
well one more thing
honda is always good when it comes to performance, and i even got 70km/litre for riding at 40-50 kmh, i used speed 93 at first since its octane no was 93, well 93 had the best power and performance …… no problems whatsoever with kick start, but when i used extarpremium it was a total looser, the bike had start problems, it didnt have the usual power and pickup, only thing was mielage…. and i think this extarpremium is not good for honda unicorn, now spped93 is out of production, now i use speed , well not that much difference but i wished we had petrol with much higher octane number…. then the performance would have been superb,
1 thing i must admit about honda is that they are very slow when it comes to updating the unicorn, now see pulsar, they made it so dfifferent within months, alloy wheels, different tyres, more sporty, nitroshock absorbers,…. what i like about our own bajaj is that they are so go when it comes to reacting to market tunes…
though i own a honda i have thumps up for pulsar coz its our indian bike,
if i had a chance to make a new version of honda,
i would have had a 3,4 versions launched simultaneously
i would have changed the front shield ,added a mileage guage, better disk brakes,much better seat cushion,
and devoid of the graphics they have now in unicorns, its a total looser, what good is it to paint the bike, if u have graphics all over it? i have a red honda, its gloss is so good, when i saw the new version,its tank was more graphics covered and i just hated it, happy that i bought the first version that the new 1…….
2,3 yrs from now i want to upgrade to a more stealthy version, some more ccs 250 maybe,

it would have been much better if they just launced the honda unicorn body model with shine 125cc engine, coz it would be pretty good looking model for a 125cc,

I have CD-DAWN (Hero Honda)..PLS dont mind of talking abt entry segment …but it was a surprise that my bike is giving average of 40-45 KM/Litre at 65+ speed at National Highway number one …
at the speed of below fifty milage is — 50 -60 km/litre.

I sent a complaint last month about my bike. Someone from your side made a call and enquired about the case and said the area in-charge will talk to me. That’s all. No one call me again. Of course, the dealer in Chennai (DIDAR Motors) rang me up to show that ‘they care’. When I told them the bike was with KUN Honda, they said they would talk to KUN people and would inform me about what can be done. They too never bothered to give me a feedback. After fifth time KUN Honda are not able to rectify the problem and I am ashamed to go back to them once more. You people are cheating me. Rather than the troubles I have with my bike, the feeling of being cheated troubles me much. I think we can still sort out the issue in two ways.
1. You rectify the problems of the bike
Or
2. Take back the bike and give me a new bike.
(If you are not gentlemen and ask me to pay the difference amount, I would, after all it is my health being affected)

After riding a Bajaj KB 100 for long 13 years, I decided to buy a new bike. After enquiring with my friends and relatives, I decided to by a Unicorn. Before finalizing that Unicorn was my next bike, I got a chance of using one of my relatives’ Unicorn when he had met with a road accident and was taking bed rest. The first thing that fascinated me about the bike was its dynamics and then its ride comfort (suspension).
I purchased the bike bearing Chassis number: ********** and Engine number: ******* from DIDAR Motors, Chennai, Tamilnadu. But after owning a brand new Unicorn for over 7 months (3 free services has been done), I regret buying a Unicorn. My bike has been giving me troubles right from the second day. From the day I took delivery of the new bike, I am not at all satisfied with the suspension. Even the triple clamp was not fitted properly. I got it corrected at the Dealer’s pre-delivery inspection section, the very next day. After the first free service I switched to another Dealer cum Service (KUN Honda). Even these people failed to rectify the fault. At least they were smart enough to hide the core defect of the bike.
After I approached the second dealer-cum service centre, they kept repairing and adjusting the suspensions. For the same complaint, I approached them 4 times. Till date, both the front and the rear suspensions are hard. To hide the fault, they adjusted the rear shock absorber to maximum soft. With this setting the suspension is supposed to be very soft. But still it acts hard and in the last 7 months; I have developed Spondilosis (with minor wear of the bones in my neck).
Being an automobile enthusiast and an Automobile Engineer, I always try to trouble shoot the faults for myself, before going to the so-called experts at the authorized service centers. Right from the beginning I have been telling them that at around 5000 rpm, my bike’s engine sound becomes rough and noisy. They said the problem was with the valve adjustment and it has been rectified. When I test-drove the vehicle after repairs I found the condition still not satisfactory. Since the bike was with them for days and I had difficulties in going to office, I took delivery of the vehicle, after marking UNSATISFIED in the job card. For the last few days, the engine sound has changed a lot and I can understand that the problem is with the crankshaft bearings. Since I am not satisfied with the job done by the authorized service people, I am in a dilemma. I feel Castrol supported BIKE ZONE is far better than going to an authorized service centre. But we are forced to go to authorized service people at least for the warranty offered. As a last resort, I am writing to you.
I can list out the major problems I am facing.
1. Front and rear suspensions are hard. (I feel the front fork springs are a little more stiff and the rear shock absorber is to replaced with a new one)
2. Engine crankshaft / Camshaft bearings are to be replaced.
3. At about 5000 rpm (60kmph and in the 5th gear), the vehicle seems to reach natural frequency and at that speed, vibration and noise of the vehicle is at its peak. The vibration and noise dies out at about 5500 to 6000 rpm. (I don’t know what the problem is and what to do about it)
As the makers of the bike, I hope, you would be able to rectify the troubles. Expecting a reply at the earliest,

We would like to bring to notice that we have given HONDA UNICORN No. MH-03 AD 3044 bike for insurance claim after accident to your authorized dealer in Navi Mumbai M/s. PRATIK HONDA their showroom no. 022-27897744 / 9988/ 9966 and workshop no. 022-65118381 / 27650516
We regret to say that such a reputed Company HONDA their appointed dealers are not co-operating with us properly and all excuses are given no assurance from their side. We requested that all formalities from Insurance Co. are completed and clearance given by surveyor on 29-11-2007. than why ? delay in changing the spare parts more than a TWO weeks are passed.
After all this your authorized dealers Mr. Pratik the owner couldn’t come to speak with us and he informed his Technician person on phone that if they are in a hurry let them take back half prepared bike. If technical people handle customers it will TOPSY-TURVY and non of any customers will be happy. We asked them to give us customer care email address of Gurgaon Factory, he proudly admitted that such emails and complaints are in papers only no solution
It was informed that their is an shortage in supply of spare parts from gurgaon HONDA company come think it is possible and how i can claim my insurance. But why they don’t keep stocks and how much time bond required if the material comes from Gurgaon max. one week a sufficient time.
Regret to say How HONDA is appointing such a dealers pl. think.
