India would be launching the INSAT-4C today

Indian Space Research Organization would be launching the much talked about communication satellite INSAT-4C today. It would be launched through a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.

The launch is scheduled to take place at 4 pm on Monday. The launch vehicle GSLV would lift off with the 2168 kg INSAT-4C from the designated launch site.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair spoke on this occasion: “The preparations for the launch are going on satisfactorily. A rehearsal was held and the results were good.”

Incidentally, this would be the first launch from the Rs 350 crore state-of-the-art launch pad at Sriharikota, which was commissioned in May 2005.

INSAT 4C is the second satellite in the INSAT 4 series and a successful launch would boost the Direct-to-Home television services, video picture transmission and digital satellite news gathering in India. ISRO said that the satellite would also provide space for National Informatics Centre’s VSAT connectivity.
