Vonage Holdings acquires three VoIP related patents

Leaders in US VoIP market, Vonage Holdings are under a lot of pressure from the stock market to perform. The company recently launched an IPO and the share prices at the moment are hovering at around half the original price.

Vonage has been sued by multiple companies for patent infringements and they plan to avoid such legal hassles in the future. The company has announced that they have acquired three patents from Digital Packet Licensing Inc., which are related to their primary voice over internet protocol technology.

These three patents are:
4,782,485
5,018,136
5,444,707

These three patents are primarily related to the compression of packetized digital signals, which are used to transmit voice data over the internet.

Michael Tribolet, president of Vonage America Inc. spoke on this new development: “The acquisition of these patents is part of Vonage’s strategic plan to further develop our core technology and build on our innovative, affordable and feature-rich phone service. Vonage’s strategic plan also includes a concerted effort to grow, create and acquire other significant IP portfolios.”

The company also added that the acquisition of these three patents would help them resolve the lawsuits filed by Sprint Communications LP and Verizon Communications.
