Tata Motors looking at GE for their small car material
Indian automotive giants Tata Motors has said that they are currently exploring the possibility of using the re-engineered plastic supplied by General Electric Co. for their Rs. 1 lakh car.
Tata Motors is due to launch this car by 2008 and this is the key time to look at the possibility of component suppliers.
Ratan Tata said on this development: “We are keen to explore this area with GE. It could reduce the time to market.†However, he cautioned that the step would not help them to reduce the cost of the car.
The company has already said that they would be relying on the power of modern adhesives rather than welding components in this car to cut costs. And they have started testing the prototypes inside their factory premises.
Tata Motors is spending as much as 10 billion rupees on their upcoming plant being built in West Bengal for this car.
