Rick Wagoner finds the GM-Nissan-Renault proposal interesting

General Motors Chief Executive Rick Wagoner has said that he finds the idea of cooperation between GM and Nissan-Renault very interesting. He added that the company would be giving its full consideration to this proposal put forward by Kirk Kerkorian.

The GM’s board of director has appointed Wagoner to lead the consideration of a possible alliance of these three automakers.

Wagoner is now looking forward to a meeting with Nissan-Renault Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn.

Rick Wagoner was speaking with media group CNBC when he said: “It’s an interesting idea. We look forward to sitting down with Carlos Ghosn soon.”

He further added: “When this idea was presented, we said we’ll take a good look at it. We are looking forward to sitting down. Our minds are completely open.”

GM is struggling badly in the US market with Japanese automakers like Toyota and Honda bring in massive sales in this market. The company is cutting jobs and closing down loss making plants.

The proposal from the GM’s largest single stockholder calls for Nissan and Renault to take a minor stake in GM. It also suggests that the three companies to work together to build vehicles and share the costs of developing new products and buying components.
