Yahoo! wants customers to make ads for them!
It seems like Search Engine Company and the operators of the world’s most popular internet portal Yahoo! has taken inspiration from the open source project Mozilla Firefox.
Like Mozilla invited the users of Mozilla Firefox web browser to make television advertisements for them, now Yahoo! is inviting customers to make advertisements, too.
The search engine company is now inviting their users to pull out the video camera, open up the editing software and create 12-second commercials for Yahoo. However, they have no prizes on offer though the winning ads would be showcased on their video portal at video.yahoo.com.
Yahoo Vice President Allen Olivo said on this new initiative: “Any advertiser or business that isn’t maximizing the power of what users have to say is crazy. The brand belongs to the customer. Who better to express what we’re all about than them?”
They have also enlisted students from four art schools – Yale, San Francisco Art Institute, Parsons School of Design and London Film Academy to kick this new initiative. The students from these institutes would create ads, with scripts written by Yahoo’s advertising agency, OgilivyOne.
