Movielink licenses technology from Sonic Solutions for DVD burning
Online movie download service Movielink has confirmed in a statement that they have indeed licensed technology from Sonic Solutions. This technology would allow them to allow consumers to download a movie and burn it onto a DVD for use in standard DVD players.
However, this service would not be available to their customers till they acquire a license for DVD encrypting technology later this year.
Jim Ramo, Movielink chief executive spoke to media on this new development: “We are hopeful this gets into the market in a big way in the next six months or so.â€
He added that they would only be able to make available a portion of their 1,500-title library for this download-to-burn service.
This is a pretty important development for the movie industry in the United States as most movie studios have denied this facility to online movie retailers for fear of piracy.
