Rick Wagoner: Alliance not a problem if it’s good for the shareholders
General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner has said in a statement that the company would have no hassles to go in with an alliance with rivals Renault-Nissan if the end result is beneficial for the shareholders in the company.
General Motors is currently discussing possible alliance plans with both Renault and Nissan as they look at cutting costs while manufacturing new cars for the future.
Wagoner was speaking to media personals at the British International Motor Show: “If there is value to be created and it’s the best option for GM shareholders, we’d be glad to do it, as we have shown time and again.”
He also dismissed the rumors which said that he might be tempted to resign from his job in case the alliance result in Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of both Renault and Nissan, getting a seat on GM’s board.
He said on this issue: “I have no intention of leaving my position at GM. We are in the middle of a huge turnaround that’s getting a lot of momentum and we really need to stay focused on that.â€
