Verizon Communications improves top broadband speeds for customers

Verizon Communications is going offensive against the cable based broadband service providers in the US market.

The company has announced that they are raising the top download speed for its fiber-based Internet service in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

These are the markets where Verizon faces serious competition from Cablevision Systems Corp. for broadband customers.

As a result, customers on Verizon’s FiOS paying $89.95 a month would now get a top download speed of 50 megabits per second. This is a major improvement from 30 mbps.

This is also perhaps the highest speed offered by any internet service provider in the USA. Cablevision in comparison is offering speeds of 30 megabits per second.

Interestingly, the service is more expensive in the New Jersey and Connecticut regions where the web users are required to pay $139.95 per month.
