CinemaNow to sell DVD compatible downloadable movies

Online movie seller CinemaNow has confirmed that they would soon start selling movies online which the end user could copy it onto a DVD that can be played on any standard DVD player.

This would be a first for the Hollywood studios who had rejected these technologies for fear of piracy in the market.

The company is hoping that they could generate much needed revenues by selling even the old movies through this service. CinemaNow plans to offer only 100 older films in the initial days. These include hits like Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Scent of a Woman.

Market analysts believe that this service is crucial, as it could potentially become the way consumers would purchase movies online. This could challenge the domination of renters and retailers such as Blockbuster Inc and Netflix Inc in the $24 billion home DVD business.

CinemaNow Chief Executive Curt Marvis spoke on this development: “This is probably the most important product release we’ve had since we started. Our customers have been asking for a long time to be able to burn disks, and they want to play them on their DVD players.”
