Sony to launch next generation HD camcorders

Consumer electronic giants Sony are due to launch a new range of digital high definition camcorders, which would record directly on DVDs and Hard Disks.

This would make them the first company to release products with these capabilities. The demand for digital camcorders is growing fast and Sony wants to dominate this market with their new products with better capabilities.

The company is due to release the model that uses 80-mm DVD discs on September 10 in Japan. It would be sold for around $1,450. The HDD model of this unit is estimated to retail for around 180,000 yen. This model would be launched in October.

Sony is already the world’s largest camcorder maker and they face competition from Victor and Canon of Japan.
