China web population touches a record 123 million
China has the world’s second largest internet population with around 123 million people connected to the online world.
This number has jumped by around 20 percent over the past year as per statistics revealed by the Chinese government.
United States continue to dominate this market with around 204 million Internet users.
The official China Internet Network Information Center said in an annual survey that the number of Web sites in China rose by more than 110,000 to a total of 788,400.
The government might be infamous for censoring the internet but has worked hard on encouraging the use of internet for business and education. They have also invested a lot in expanding broadband connectivity throughout the nation.
The agency also claimed that an average Chinese Internet user now spends 16.5 hours per week online. This itself is a new high for the country.
