Samsung starts mass production of 8-Gigabit NAND Flash memory chips
South Korean tech giants Samsung has confirmed that they are now mass producing 8-Gigabit NAND Flash memory chips using the 60-nanometer process.
These flash memory chips as a result are being manufactured through the most delicate technology used in the industry so far.
Samsung claims that these 8-gigabit NAND are good enough to store up to 2,000 MP3 files or up to 225 minutes of DVD-quality video files. These modules are expected to be out in the market by the third quarter of this year.
The company added that this 60-nano technology brings about almost 25 percent manufacturing productivity over its predecessor, the 70-nano process. It is also expected to boost the transition from hard disk drive to flash memory for the data storage of personal computers.
