Intel planning to launch quad-core processors later this year

Intel continues to reveal their offensive plans to counter the challenges produced by their smaller rivals AMD in the microprocessor market.

The company has now said that they would be bringing out quad-core processors in the last quarter of the current year. Intel was due to launch these products early next year.

Intel CEO Paul Otellini spoke on this new development: “We notified customers that we’re pulling in both a desktop and server of the first quad-core processors into the fourth quarter of this year from the first half of 2007.”

These two new processors are named Kentsfield and Clovertown and these are essentially twin-die packages of Core 2 Duo.

Otellini also added that their upcoming Merom processor is also already shipping to revenue. In addition, their Tulsa processors for Xeon MP are also already shipping to revenue. AMD now has a lot to be afraid off!
