Maruti to continue its focus on small compact cars
Maruti Suzuki is the dominating automaker in the Indian market and they practically rule the compact car segment.
The company has now said that they plan to continue focus on this particular segment as this segment generates most of the sales of cars in the Indian market.
And the Indian market is also expected to become a major hub for the manufacture of small cars and Maruti wants to cater to this growing segment in the automotive market.
MUL Managing Director Jagdish Khattar said that India was ranked third after Japan and Brazil in the small car segment in the world. And he is hoping that India would soon overtake Brazil to become the second largest market for small cars.
The parent company Suzuki recently tied up with Nissan and Maruti is now expected to make small cars for Nissan, which would be exported to global markets of Nissan. Khattar said on this deal: “The Nissan tie up is the first indication on the hub for overseas needs”, he said, adding that for several more years, MUL’s focus would remain on 1.3 to 1.5 liter cars.â€
