MySpace ended up infecting users with malware through a banner advertisement
Incoming reports suggest that online social networking website MySpace.com might have ended up infecting around a million users with a spyware. The problem was with an advertisement running on the service’s website, which misused a bug in the Windows operating system.
Victims of this bug ended up being bombarded with pop-up adverts. It also became a potential privacy hazard as the malware tracked the online activities of the victim.
Security companies claim that the devil advertisement ran on the MySpace.com network for around a weeks time before it was noticed by the site’s operators.
The problem only affected the users who were using the not so updated Internet Explorer web browser to access the website. Microsoft has already released patches for this Windows MetaFile (WMF) bug and people with up-to-date Internet Explorer application were safe.

hhmmmm im not sure if its to do with the power outage but its been saying since last nyt that my profiles undergoing maintenance…. is this true or have i been hacked? to be fair myspace is kinda peein me off now so if its gone i just wanna know.

A friend had his account hacked this week, sent messages out to his friends and added new friends to his list.
There is a power outage reportedly in LA right now that may be causing the site’s outage. As heard tonight on Matt Drudge.
