It’s official! AMD to acquire ATI
We have been hearing these rumors since the last couple of months. Now, it’s official. AMD has confirmed that they are planning to acquire the dominant makers of graphics chips ATI.
The deal would be worth around $5.4 billion and the market analysts believe that it could potentially alter the competition in the semiconductor industry.
The deal would also see another major blow to the domination of Intel in the microprocessor market. AMD would now become a company that sells more than just processors for computers. With ATI, they can make and sell better integrated products, which are now preferred by the PC manufacturing industry.
Jon Peddie of Jon Peddie Research wrote in a note on this awesome news: “It’s one of the most disruptive and exciting things to happen to the PC industry in a very long time. It’s a brilliant move on their part because they’ve scooped up an excellent company and they have a whole bag of products that Intel doesn’t have.”
