Google launches Open Source Community project hosting service
Search engine giant has been a huge support of the open source community and they have just become a lot more friendlier.
The company has now launched a free hosting service for the Open Source Community. This is somewhat similar to what SourceForge.net from VA Software is already doing but Google did say that they are not looking at challenging what is already available to the developers of OSS.
Google said that their service would provide users with a project workspace, version control, issue tracking capabilities, and a mailing list powered by the Google Groups service. Greg Stein, an open source engineer with Google added: “We really like SourceForge, and we don’t want to hurt SourceForge or take away projectsâ€.
The current release is still under development and the users would get to see many more features in the coming months. And it is great news for the people who got frustrated by deteriorating services of SourceForge.
