NASA might delay launch programs to control budget deficit

Sources at the US based Space Agency NASA has said that they are considering shutting down all the research programs related to the International Space Station for around 12 months to control the deficit in their allocated budget.

They are under funded as the government preferred to spend money on Hurricane Katrina losses. NASA Deputy Space Station Program Manager Kirk Shireman spoke on these reports: “All those things are under consideration. Right now, we’re quite a bit in the hole. We’re looking at a number of options.”

They have just managed to complete a rather successful space mission with the Space Shuttle after having spent more than $1.3 billion on safety upgrades. In addition, they have also implemented $300 million in station cuts last year.

The priority has been on completing the space station than on spending money on research projects.
