LPG and CNG appearing as alternative fuel in Indian automobile market

As the fuel prices are touching record heights, Indian automobile companies are now offering liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) powered automobiles.

Maruti is the country’s largest selling automaker and they just recently launched a model of its compact WagonR that can run on petrol and LPG. This version is priced 5% higher than the regular WagonR model. The company claims that user can save as much as 66% on fuel costs when running on LPG.

Until now, most Indian consumers had to rely on third party kits and LPG cylinders from the kitchen for such solutions, which were both risky and complicated. However, improved government regulations have enabled the automakers to offer this solution from the company side.

These duel-fuel cars still prove to be cheaper than going for a diesel car in the Indian market.
