Suzuki planning a USD 228 million investment in India

Suzuki Motor Corporation is the largest sellers of consumer cars in India. They account for more than half of the cars sold in India with Maruti 800 being the largest seller of the lot. Suzuki plans to spend the money (25 billion yen) to develop small car diesel engines and another factory for making small cars.
This will give the company the grunt it needs to sell cheap diesel cars. Currently it export the diesel engines from Peugeot (TUD5) to power Zen Diesel and Esteem Diesel. The technology is old and importing them proves to be expensive. Developing them in-house will give them the power to lower the prices and even sell and export the engines to other automobile manufacturers.
General Motors’ Adam Opel AG unit and Fiat Auto SpA affiliate are supplying the technology for the engines. And reports say that this might also power future GM and Fiat products in India.
