AMD now controls 26% of the server processor market
Advanced Micro Devices might be facing intense competition from the recent product launches from the microprocessor industry giants Intel but they are doing well in the server market.
The company said in a statement that they have now increased their share of the x86 server processor market to 25.9 percent.
This figure has been confirmed by the Mercury Research’s Dean McCarron, who tracks market share figures. Intel now has a market share of around 72.9 percent in the total microprocessor market. AMD controls around 21.6 percent.
Via is the third major player in the market with just around 5.5% market share. AMD on the other hand benefits from the ever increasing sales of their Opteron processors. Nevertheless, with Intel launching dual core Xeon processors recently, AMD would face far intense competition in this quarter.
