Handheld computers getting beating by advanced mobile phone products

Market research firm International Data Corp. has reported that the sales of handheld computers are falling, as the consumers now prefer higher end mobile phones with similar capabilities.

The sales of these handheld devices have fallen for the 10th consecutive quarter. IDC reported that the sales fell down by around 26.3 percent in the most recent quarter compared to similar period last year.

IDC define these devices as pocket-sized gadgets capable of synchronizing with desktop or laptop computers but are not capable of telephony.

In fact, the vendors themselves are now concentrating on promoting and selling mobile phones with computing ability as it saves the trouble for the customers to carry two devices around. Mobile phones today are capable of doing more than just making calls.
