AMD launches their Personal Internet Computing device in Uganda and Mexico
Microprocessor maker AMD has announced that they are launching their Personal Internet Computing (PIC) device in two new regions.
AMD has launched this low cost computing device in Uganda and Mexico this week. This launch is part of their 50X15 Initiative that aims to bring Internet access to 50 percent of the world’s population by 2015.
For the Uganda market, AMD is collaborating with the Ugandan Government, New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and 13 additional organizations.
Minister of Education Namirembe Bitamazire spoke on this new initiative: “It is imperative that we continue to provide our students and teachers with Internet access and computing capabilities to enhance their educational experiences here in Uganda. The effects of these deployments will be felt by students and teachers alike immediately. It is our hope that these technology solutions will help empower students with the skills and knowledge they need to achieve great success in the digital world.”
